Columbus Class

I am the class teacher for Columbus Class and our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Sakyi, Mrs Gill and Mrs Humphrey.

Our second term as Columbus Class went extremely quickly and was also full of fun and exciting learning experiences.  We enjoyed our Olympic themed term and got fully involved in our health and fitness units of work.  Our Olympic PE lessons culminated in our very own Olympics on the last day of term.  Well done those winners!

As you are aware the end of the Spring Term brought about the end of Columbus Class as a mixed Year 4/5 class and we are all excited about forming separate Year 4 and Year 5 classes.  We will however be reforming every Monday afternoon for our outdoor PE session.

This Term’s Topics…

This term, our topic work is based around ‘Cliffhanger’ encompassing Literacy, Science and Geography.  Our Geography lessons will be focusing on coastlines. We will be looking not only at locations but also at how and why different coastlines are formed.  Our Literacy in the first half of the term will focus on Jacqueline Wilson’s story of Cliffhanger .  Literacy will then move on to looking at Instructions and analysing the more challenging texts by Charles Dickens.  Science throughout the term will see us studying lifecycles – this will be specific to the coastal environment.  Science will also become a noisy affair with us studying Sound!

Columbus Class and Carter Class will also be joining back together on Friday 25th May to go on a trip down to Portsmouth to visit the Aquarium and see the Portsmouth coastline.
