Year 1 - Earle

Welcome to Summer 1

Welcome back after the Easter break. I hope you all had a restful holiday and are ready for an exciting summer term ahead. The children worked incredibly hard last term and took part in some fantastic experiences, including a science workshop, a virtual reality session, and an Indian dance workshop. They also performed amazingly at the church during our Easter service, and I was very proud of their effort and enthusiasm.

This term, we are looking forward to building on that success with lots of engaging learning opportunities. We will be carrying out a Victorian school day (date to follow), which will give the children a chance to experience what school life was like in the past. In literacy, we will continue to use rich texts to enhance learning, including Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and Lubna and the Pebble by Wendy Meddour. In maths, we will be continuing to build key skills, with a particular focus on embedding the foundations of solid number knowledge to 100. Please find attached our topic web for the term, along with a family learning guide if you would like to support your child’s learning at home.

As always, please continue to read regularly with your child, as this is essential for their progress. The children will also be completing the phonics screening check in the week beginning 8th June, so any extra practice at home will be very beneficial. Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Miss Portch

The children loved the Virtual reality workshop where we investigated marine life.
