Year 5 - Columbus

We have had a great start to Year 5! We have been learning all about Space and the World around us. Children have really enjoyed being curious about this topic and finding out about night and day, shadows, the size and order of the planets and much more! We learnt so much about the solar system that we performed our first class assembly all about the Solar System.

We even performed our own song to the tune of Roar by Katy Perry to teach others about the solar system. We are hoping to visit Winchester Space Centre to cement and recap all this learning in January.

We have also been fortunate enough to have a Music Specialist from Hampshire Music Service teaching us about Percussion Instruments. We have been learning how to play Samba music.

In Geography, we have been learning about 'rivers' and we have been fascinated to find out more about how rivers are formed and all the different features of rivers.

Next term we are going to be focusing on 'forces and mechanisms' in science and Tudors in history. We are also going to be swimming at Yateley School pool for the first 6 weeks for our PE for this half term.

In Reading, we will be finishing our work on 'The War of the Worlds' and then moving on to a longer text.

In writing, we are going to be writing an epic adventure story based on The Odyssey and then a non-chronological report about the achievements of the women and the history of NASA.
