Year 5 - Columbus
What a fantastic start to 2026 we have had! We seemed to manage to fit so much in to a relatively short half term. First of all, we celebrated Internet Safety Day with our own assembly all about using AI safely and responsibly. We gave the rest of the school lots to think about – for the future of AI.

We also loved our bikeability sessions at the end of the half term. Despite the slightly rainy weather, we all made so much progress in our bike and road safety.

This term, we have another busy few weeks planned. We are going to be getting the opportunity to visit Wellington College and have Wellington College students visit us to experience some exciting workshops, including an escape room.
We are going to be reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell in Reading sessions and writing our own film pitch for our writing based on the wordless book The Whale.

We will also be celebrating Book Week on the week of 2nd March with the theme mental health and well-being. Lots of fun activities are being planned, including a ‘book swap’ event, bounce for books and dressing up day on 4th March.
Finally, we have our school trip to Winchester Science Centre on Thursday 26th March. We can’t wait to revisit space and experience the planetarium amongst other things!
